Skin concern: Pigmentation
What is pigmentation?
Pigmentation refers to the skin's coloration, primarily influenced by melanins. Pigmentation comes in many forms: uneven skin tone, dark spots, patches... Hyperpigmentation involves darkening due to excess melanin, often triggered by sun exposure or inflammation. Common conditions include age spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. On the contrary, hypopigmentation leads to lighter skin, seen in conditions like vitiligo.
What causes pigmentation?
Pigmentation is primarily caused by melanin, the skin's pigment produced by melanocytes. Sun exposure stimulates melanin production, leading to tanning. Hormonal changes, such as those during pregnancy, can trigger melasma. Injuries or inflammation may result in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Genetic factors and certain medications can also influence pigmentation and can cause irregularities.
What can I do about it?
Consider using topical treatments with ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C, or alpha hydroxy acids. Sun protection is crucial to prevent further pigmentation. Professional interventions such as chemical peels, laser therapy, or microdermabrasion can be very effective. Talk to our skin therapists and beauty therapists about the best treatment for your condition and skin type. And a word of advice: While pigmentation irregularities are often benign, talk to your dermatologist to rule out underlying health concerns and determine appropriate treatment options.

Microneedling
Microneedling is a minimally invasive skincare technique that uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates collagen production.
